Leaving Osoyoos - Oct. 20/22

George and Sheila drove us to Penticton airport we waited about an hour before we got on Air Canada Express (I was surprised that Dalton would book on Air Canada, but we were only going to Vancouver so what could go wrong).

The Airport in Vancouver was not busy, we got our bags as soon as we arrived at the carousel.  Dalton got a trolley so we were off to the Hotel Fairmont, Room 1111.

After depositing our bags we went out looking for a place to eat - not fast food - we sat in the lounge and checked out the menu and decided to check out the other restaurant.  We should have stayed where we were.  The food was good, Dalton thought he would live dangerously so he had octopus, turned out it was pretty good.  After receiving our bill we thought we would have to shorten our holiday.

Our room was really nice, the beds were comfortable but neither of us slept very well.  Excitement I think!

Next morning we went to Timmy's for breakfast and coffee.  We got them to change our checkout time to 2:00 instead of 12:00 as we were not leaving until 7:00pm.

We won't be able to see John and Lauren today as John is quite ill, he is having issues with his lungs.  Dalton said he could hardly talk.

We went back to our room to rest up for our very long flight.

We left Vancouver at 8:00 pm, what a fiasco that was. Apparently after Covid hit they made new rules.  Now if you are just stopping over to change planes you have to have a form giving you permission to land.  No one advised us of that little but significant change.  Dalton was ok because he was travelling on his Australian passport.  I, however, was on my Canadian one.  It took us 2 hours to complete the form, with lots of help from airport staff as well as Immigration staff.  We finally got it done and hopefully was saved to the phone because we are gong to have to do it again on the way home.

Now for the upgraded seats we had...there were 3 seats for the 2 of us but the trick was that the bottom row was a pull up section which made into a bed, just think of it, knowing how close the row ahead of you is.  You both are supposed to lay down as it it was a bed...My toes were hanging over so you can just imagine how twisted Dalton was, we have never slept so close since we were married.  They even have a set-up so you can be belted in, we gave up on that.  We could stand it for about an hour then we had to bail, what a waste of $1200.00, we get them on the way back as well.  There were so many blankets, pillows and yes douvets taking up all the room.  We would have been better off sharing with another passenger perhaps they would share a shoulder.
